Pune: PIFA Colaba FC blew away a one goal advantage by conceding a self-goal and shared honours by playing out a 1-1 draw with Sesa FA, Goa in the inaugural encounter of the 7th Abhijit Kadam Memorial Football Cup at the Bharati Vidyapeeth Educational Complex Ground on Saturday.
Mumbai-based PIFA took the lead through striker George Wamou (22nd), before conceding an own goal by defender Clifford Garrett in the 57th minute of the match.
Sesa FA managed to take control early in the match. Left-winger Marcus Fernandes squared in a ball to striker Chikwudi Chukwma, who chested the ball, got through managing to beat the offside trap, but PIFA ‘keeper Kishan Sulegai kept him at bay.
PIFA managed to up their game and had a couple of shots blocked. It was not until the 22nd minute when the first good chance was created.
PIFA earned a free kick on the edge of the box on the left. Striker George Wamou made most of this opportunity drilling his right footer to the far post.
Sesa thought they had pulled one back when striker Chikwudi Chukwma put a cross from Pratesh Shirodkar into the net, only to be in offside position.
On the half hour mark, Sesa had another good chance on a counter when Marcus sent Chukwma through, but PIFA ‘keeper Kishan managed to block the run.
Sesa were creating more chances and went agonizingly close scoring in the 42nd minute when striker Chukwma’s header went inches wide.
Switching ends, PIFA went into defensive mode as Sesa started pushing forward. The Goans were rewarded in the 57th minute when a low ball played from the right by Velito Cruz ended up in in the back of the net after PIFA defender Clifford Garrett’s hash clearance foxed his own ‘keeper Kishan Sulegai.
Sesa had one more chance when Velito Cruz sent Chukwma through, but PIFA ‘keeper Kishan came up with an excellent block to deny the Sesa striker.
