Kohli rested; Rohit to lead India in Asia Cup

rohitThe Indian Team has been announced by the BCCI for the Asia Cup Cricket Tournament to be held in UAE from 15th to 28th September. India’s regular captain Virat Kohli has been rested for the Asia Cup. In his absence, Rohit Sharma will lead the 16 men squad for the tournament while Shikhar Dhawan has been named the vice-captain.

Indian Team is currently playing the 5 Match Test Series against England and with 1 Test to go has already lost the series. The series ends on 11th September and within 4 days the Indian squad will have to be ready for the Asia Cup. Similarly, the Test Team will get less than a week’s time from the Asia Cup finals since the West Indies Series is lined up next.

Virat Kohli has prioritized Test Cricket against West Indies and decided to not participate in the Asia Cup. However, all other regular players are in the squad.

The squad includes a new face in 20-year old Khaleel Ahmed. The left arm pacer Khaleel, is a resident of Rajasthan. Although he has featured in only 2 First-Class Matches for Rajasthan, he has good experience of List A and T20 Cricket.
