Kieron Pollard’s (50) half century innings followed by Player of the Match Jasprit Bumrah’s 3 wicket haul helped the Mumbai Indians beat the Kings XI Punjab by 3 runs in the league match of the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League to stay alive in the competition. This was Mumbai’s 6th win in 13 games and with 12 points MI are now in the Top 4 and the 7th defeat for Punjab in as many matches.
On Wednesday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, the home team batted first and scored a respectable 186 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. In response, the Kings XI Punjab could muster just 183 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. After Chris Gayle’s early dismissal, KL Rahul and Aaron Finch stitched 111 runs for the second wicket, however after a few wickets in the end overs, Kings XI Punjab could not get over the line.
Prior to this Kieron Pollard and Krunal Pandya added 65 runs for the 5th wicket. Krunal Pandya (32), Suryakumar Yadav (27), Ishan Kishan (20) also contributed with the bat.
Andrew Tye picked up 4 wickets, R Ashwin 2 and Ankit Rajpoot and Marcus Stoinis chipped in with 1 each.
