Chennai Super Kings defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets on Sunday (May 13) to make it to the Play Offs. At the MCA stadium in Pune, SRH batted first and scored a challenging 179 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. In response, Chennai got there in 19 overs itself and scored and lost only 2 wickets in the process. This was the first instance in this season where SRH failed to defend a total scored by them while batting first.
For Chennai, it was Man of the Match Ambati Rayudu (100*) who scored a century and took the attack to the opposition never allowing the SRH bowlers to make a comeback. SRH always seemed to be behind in the game as apart from Rayudu, Shane Watson contributed 57 runs and the duo provided CSK, a perfect start, the opening stand worth 134 runs, chasing 9 runs an over. This happened to be the second centurion opening partnership for CSK this season. Prior to this Faf du Plessis and Watson had added 102 runs against the Delhi Daredevils.
Batting first SRH got to 179 on the back of half centuries from Shikhar Dhawan (79) and Kane Williamson (51). This was the seventh half century for Williamson this season, the highest for any captain in an IPL season. SRH and CSK, both have now made it to the Play Offs with 18 and 16 points each from 12 matches.
