Mumbai Indians continued their poor run in the 11th edition of the IPL. On Tuesday (April 24), at its own backyard- the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Mumbai Indians were further disappointed with a shameful defeat.
Due to a commendable performance from the Mumbai bowlers- Mitchell McClenaghan, Hardik Pandya and Mayank Markande, MI were able to wrap up the Hyderabad batting order for just 118 runs in 18.4 overs. At the halfway stage, MI looked all set for their second victory and a fitting gift for Mumbai’s mentor and the legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar on his 45th Birthday.
However, the Rohit Sharma led team fell flat in the course of the chase. SRH bowling unit- arguably the best in the league, counter attacked and Mumbai Indians could not even come close to a modest total of 118. In only the third occasion when all 20 wickets have fallen in an IPL game, Mumbai could only gather 87 runs having played 18.5 overs and lost the match by 31 runs.
This was Mumbai’s fifth loss in six matches, while fourth win for Hyderabad in as many games. Rashid Khan who produced excellent figures of 2/11 in his quota of 4 overs was adjudged the player of the match. His victims included the dangerous Kieron Pollard and Krunal Pandya who was looking in good touch.
Suryakumar Yadav (34) top scored in the match but ended up on the losing side. With the win, Hyderbad are at No. 3 spot on the points table.
