Death overs specialist Jasprit Bumrah’s 19th over which costed 18 runs proved to be too expensive for the Mumbai Indians. On Sunday (April 22), at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Mumbai, the Rajasthan Royals pulled off a thriller to beat the Mumbai Indians by 3 wickets. In the final over which required the Rajasthan Royals to get 10 runs, Karnataka all-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham held his nerve to score a 4 and a 6 and get his team over the line.
Batting first, despite of a century partnership between Ishan Kishan (58) and Suryakumar Yadav (72), Mumbai Indians made a 167 runs. In response, RR needed 28 of final 2 overs and an expensive penultimate over helped RR’s equation for a win. With 10 needed of the final over, RR won the match with 2 balls to spare.
This was Rajasthan’s third win in sixth game, while it was the fourth defeat for the Mumbai Indians in 5 matches. Jofra Archer, made an impressive IPL debut, and picked up 3 wickets in a great spell of fast bowling. Archer was adjudged the player of the match for his performance. RR are now at the 5th place on points table, while MI stay at 7th position.
