The Galestorm continued to tear apart the opposition attack on Saturday (April 21) and this time the victim was the Kolkata Knight Riders. Chris Gayle (62* off 38), who made his third consecutive 50 plus score in the season, and Player of the Match Lokesh Rahul (60 off 27) ensured that the Kings XI Punjab make a mockery of the total put forward by the Kolkata Knight Riders.
In the rain-affected game, the Kings XI were able to win by 9 wickets against KKR at their home ground on Saturday. The win ensured that Punjab reached the summit of the points table with 4 wins out of 5.
Earlier Chris Lynn fired for the Knights and made 74 off 41 deliveries helping the KKR reach a 191/7. However, the attacking cricket from the Punjab openers Gayle and Rahul made sure that Punjab won quite convincingly in the end.
After the rain-interruption, Punjab’s target was revised to 125 runs in 12 overs. However, the R Ashwin led team got there in just 11.1 overs with the loss of 1 wicket. This was Punjab’s fourth win in 5 matches while it was the third defeat for the Knight Riders in their sixth match.
Prior to this, KKR did not get off to a good start. Sunil Narine who came in to open the innings departed after scoring just 1 run. After that Chris Lynn and Robin Uthappa tried to stabilize the innings. However, a couple of good wickets and the scoreboard read 85/3. It was then that captain Dinesh Karthik joined hands with Lynn and helped the Knights reach the 191 run mark.
