Yousuf undergoes fitness test, eyes comeback

Lahore: Former Pakistan captain Mohammed Yousuf has undergone a fitness test here in a bid to make a comeback to international cricket.

The 37-year-old last played for Pakistan in a Test against England in the controversial Lord's Test in 2010, which was marred by spot-fixing, involving three of his team-mates.

But since then Yousuf has not been considered for selection as he has not featured in domestic tournaments.

On Tuesday, he took part in a training session under new Pakistan coach Dav Whatmore at the national academy.

"I have given a fitness test and now the result is in the hands of PCB. I am ready to play for my country and still have enough cricket left in me," Yousuf was quoted as saying in the Pakistan media.

Whatmore said the fitness of all Pakistani players will be assessed by next week, before the team leaves for Sri Lanka in May.

"The fitness test was designed to give everyone an idea where they stand now and after a prescription of work to re-test and see the improvement," the coach said.

Pakistan will play three Tests, five ODIs and two Twenty20s in Sri Lanka from late May to mid-July. (IANS)
