Bridgetown: Australia registered a thrilling victory over West Indies, as they beat the hosts by three wickets in the first test here on Wednesday.
Australia chasing a target of 192 did see their share of frustration in the foray as they lost wickets in a flurry and also the degrading lighting conditions causing trouble to them.
West Indies who ended on 71-5 overnight never looked to be in shape to go anywhere from there but they did manage to put on a relatively challenging target.
When Australia came out to bat, skipper Darren Sammy of West Indies set a very defensive field and it looked he had draw on his mind. With bad light conditions Australia did keep losing wickets but also kept the scoreboard ticking.
A half-century from Shane Watson and a rapid 32 from Mike Hussey were the key contributions for Austalia,
Fittingly, Man of the Match, Ryan Harris was with Hilfenhaus at the crease at the end.
After Hussey fell and light continuously degrading Ben Hilfenhaus scored the winning runs to register a thrilling win. Narsingh Deonarine picked up four wickets for West Indies.
Ryan Harris of Australia was named the man of the match.
