Bridgetown: West Indies beat Australia by 14 runs to win the second T20 International and draw the series 1-1 at the Kensington Oval on Friday.
Set a target of 161, Australia started off well and was well placed at 75-2 in 10 overs, but it was then when their chase went haywire. Marlon Samuels bowled some brilliant off break and picked up the wickets of George Bailley (24), Mike Hussey (14) and Matthew Wade (17).
With Australia looking down the barrel, it was seamer Fidel Edwards who created further problems for the Australians when he got rid of Daniel Christian and Brett Lee in successive deliveries of the 19th over. He earlier dismissed Shane Watson for a duck in the first over.
Australia went into the last over needing 19 runs. David Hussey their only hope of turning the match around was dismissed in the fourth ball of the over after he took a fine catch in the deep. Hussey departed for 19 and with that ended Australia’s chase and finished their innings on 146-9.
Opener David Warner top-scored with a 43-ball 58 with five fours and three sixes.
Earlier, West Indies who won the toss failed to capitalize on their brilliant start and could pile up only 160. Coming on to bat first, the hosts were on a rampage and raced to 110-2 by the halfway stage.
Openers Dwayne Smith and Johnson Charles got them off to a blistering start but a middle order collapse saw them losing out on a great advantage. They lost eight wickets for just 40 runs. Opener Dwayne Bravo top scored for them with a 34 balls 63 which included six fours and four sixes.
Brett Lee was the pick of the bowler who picked up 3-23.
