Dunedin: Centuries by skipper Graeme Smith (115) and Jacques Kallis (107*) to propel South Africa to a dominating 268/3 at stumps on day three of the first test match being played here today.

Grame Smith scored his 24th century while Kallis scored his 42nd helping him to go past Ricky Ponting on the list of most number of centuries in test cricket, with the number one position held by Sachin Tendulkar.

Smith and Kallis who came on to bat with the scorecard reading 47/2 with a lead of 12 runs crafted their innings very well to share 200 runs partnership.

Earlier, Doug Bracewell gave the Proteas an early scare when he removed Alviro Peterson and Hashim Amla for a respective score 25 and 2 in the same over. After that nothing went their way and duo of the Smith and Kallis cruised to take the Proteas to a handsome lead. Just before Kallis’ ton, misfortune struck them as Bracewell bowled the centurion Smith to bring some respite for New Zealand.

South Africa did not allow further and wrapped the day Kallis and Jacques Rudolph remaining unbeaten at the crease.
