IPL auction: Ravindra Jadeja costliest catch of season five

Bangalore: As expected, Ravindra Jadeja came out to be the costliest catch of Indian Premier League auction in Season V, as the Indian all-rounder was bought by Chennai Super Kings for a whooping $ 2 million in the tie-breaker at the ITC Royal Gardenia Hotel here on Saturday.


Meanwhile, Sri Lankan Mahela Jayawardene was bought by Delhi Daredevils for $ 1.4 million, while his teammate Muttiah Muralitharan was picked up by Royal Challenges Bangalore for $ 2,20,000. Rajasthan Royals bought Bradley Hodge for $ 475,000, while New Zealand's Brendon McCullum became the first player to be sold in the auction and was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for $ 900,000.

The bidding on RP Singh started with a base price of $200,000. After a bidding competion between Rajasthan, Deccan and Mumbai Indians, Mumbai bought RP for $600,000.

Royal Challenges Bangalore brought Vinay Kumar for a whooping price of $1 million. Another Indian fast bowler Sreesanth was bought by Rajasthan Royals at the base price of $400,000. Kings XI Punjab bought Indian spinner Ramesh Powar for $160,000.

As of now Darren Bravo, Ian Bell, Upul Tharanga, Adrian Barath, Tamim Iqbal and VVS Laxman went unsold at the IPL 5 auction.

A total of 144 players will be auctioned for the available 29 slots as the auction for the fifth edition of the Indian Premier League. The franchises have a maximum of $2 million to spend at the auction which happens to be the cheapest of the five so far.
