Retirement is purely individual's decision: Chief selector MSK Prasad on MS Dhoni

dhonileads1Mumbai: BCCI chairman of the senior national selection committee MSK Prasad on Sunday made it clear that post World Cup, Rishab Pant will be given as many opportunities as possible to groom him as the main wicket-keeper of Team India. When asked if former skipper MS Dhoni would be in the scheme of things for 2020 T20 World Cup, Prasad said their plan now was to groom Pant in all three formats.

“Dhoni is unavailable for the West Indies series. He has expressed it. Having said that, we had a certain roadmap and plans till the ICC World Cup in England. Post the World Cup, we have laid down few more plans and we thought of giving as many opportunities as possible to Rishabh Pant to groom him. This is our plan right now. Pant is going to play in all three formats. Definitely Wriddhiman Saha and K.S Bharat will come into the picture at some point in time,” said Prasad.

When asked if Dhoni would have been selected for the Windies tour if he had made himself available, Prasad said: “I cannot answer that question, it’s up to him. When he is available, we will look at it.”

Talking about Dhoni's retirement, Prasad said that it was surely his decision. “Retirement is purely individual's decision. A legendary cricketer like Dhoni knows when to retire. He will never react to any controversy and I am sure you all know this much about the man and his ethics. But what is the future course of action, what is the road map is in the hands of the selection committee.
