Ms Dhoni has scored 9 one-day international centuries till now from 283 matches. Here is the analysis of Dhoni’s centuries in the ODIs:

1. 148 Vs Pakistan, 2005: After 4 innings from his debut, Dhoni scored his first hundred against Pakistan. After Sachin Tendulkar's run out in the 4th over for only 2 runs, MS dhoni came into bat with Virender Sehwag. Both the dashing batsmen attacked the Pakistani bowlers. Their partnership of 96 runs ended until Sehwag got out on 74. After that India lost some momentum because Sourav Ganguly couldn't get going and was eventually out on 9. Skipper Rahul Dravid joined MS Dhoni. By that time Dhoni went passed his maiden fifty in international cricket. The Dravid-Dhoni combo ensured that India won’t lose any wicket. This partnership helped India to reach a very respectable total. They both added 140 runs for the 4th wicket. That also helped Dhoni in a way to get passed his maiden one international hundred from 88 balls. Still he continued attacking the Pakistani bowlers and he got out to Mohammad Hafeez for well made 148 from just 123 balls. He got the standing ovation from the crowd who were there at Visakhapatnam.

2. 183 not out Vs Sri Lanka, 2005: It was a treat for those who saw this match Live from Jaipur's Sawai Mansingh Stadium. First Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara entrained the crowd by scoring 138 runs and set a stiff target of 299 for India to chase. India were in a spot of bother when Sachin Tendulkar departed early. That brought Dhoni promoted to No.3 and he did not disappoint his captain by staying there till the end and scoring 183 not out from 210 balls. He brought India home in the 46th over itself. This innings from Dhoni broke many records and cricket fraternity was stunned when they saw a new match winner named Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

3. 139 not out Vs Africa XI, 2007: This was the 3rd match between Africa XI v Asia XI from Afro-Asia Cup. Dhoni was playing for Asia XI. The Asia XI was in huge trouble when they lost their top 5 batsmen for just 72 runs. It was Dhoni and Jayawardene's partnership to rescue their team from this huge trouble. Both the batsmen played carefully and build up a strong partnership, which was need of the hour. This huge partnership changed the complexion of the game. Both Dhoni and Jayawardene slammed hundreds. This hundred from Dhoni was his 3rd in ODIs. The partnership of 218 runs helped the team to reach a mammoth total of 331 runs in 50 overs. This partnership broke many records of MA Chidambaram Stadium Chepauk in Chennai. Mahela Jayawardene scored solid 107 runs and Ms Dhoni was there till the end. His entertaining knock of 139 Not out will be always there in everyone's mind.

4. 109 not out Vs Hong Kong, 2008: This is Dhoni's 4th Hundred and first one away from home (India). After the openers gave them a solid start. Both Dhoni and Raina cashed in with their centuries. India scored a huge, mammoth total of 371 runs in 50 Overs. Thanks to 2 fifties from Sehwag and Gambhir and 2 hundreds from Raina and Dhoni. MS dhoni was again unbeatable till the end. He scored 109* not out.

5. 124 Vs Australia, 2009: This was Dhoni's 5th ODI Hundred and first against the mighty Aussies at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Jamtha in Nagpur. After losing the first ODI, India had to play well to be alive in the series. In that match, Australia won the toss and chose to bowl because they were confident of chasing runs. Peter Siddle got the first breakthrough for Australia. He took the wicket of the Little Master Sachin Tendulkar. Sehwag also got out in the 10 over. Yuvraj Singh also did not last for long. He was caught & bowled by Hilfenhaus. Then came Dhoni with Gambhir. Partnership was the need of that hour and both the players did exactly that. His partnership with Gambhir & Raina sealed the match for the home team. With Gambhir, Dhoni added 119 runs for the 4th wicket and with Raina, He added 136 runs. Both Gambhir and Raina departed after getting starts, they did not convert them. Dhoni saw these mistakes made by these two players. He converted his good start and made this into a magical hundred. Due to his hundred and contribution from Gambhir and Raina, India posted 354 runs in their 50 overs . In the end they won the match by 99 runs.

6. 107 Vs Sri Lanka, 2009: This is the 6th ODI hundred and first hundred which ended in losing cause. This match was played at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Jamtha in Nagpur against The Lankans. Dhoni's 107, Rains"s 68 and Tendulkar's 43 were the highlight of Indian innings. India scored 301 in 50 overs. Kumar Sangakkara was too good on his day. His 123 runs and contribution from the lower order sealed the match for Sri Lanka. They won it by 3 wickets and 5 balls remaining.

7. 101 not out Vs Bangladesh, 2010: This was Dhoni's 7th Hundred and 2nd one away from home. Bangladesh reached 296 runs. Openers and the lower orders contribution allowed them to reach this score. India were struggling without Sachin Tendulkar. When Kohli and Dhoni got together India was reeling at 51 for 3. Both were playing sensibly and watchfully. This partnership was turning point for India. Kohli missed a well deserved century by nine runs. But his partnership with his captain Dhoni brought India into a winning position. He and Dhoni added 152 runs. Then, Suresh Raina came and finished the game in style. Again Dhoni was there with 101 not out. Suresh Raina and Ms Dhoni both added unbeaten partnership of 94 runs for the 5th wicket to win the match 6 wickets with 15 balls remaining.

8. 113 not out vs Pakistan, Chennai, 2012: India were at a miserable condition losing their top five batsmen for just 29 in 10 overs. However, the Indian skipper played a memorable knock and scored 113 not out off 125 balls with seven fours and three sixes to take India to a respectable 227/6 after 50 oversHe shared partnerships of 73 with Raina and an unbroken 125 runs with R Ashwin. However, India lost the match six wickets.

9. 139 not out Vs Australia, 2013: This was the 9th ODI hundred and third hundred which ended in losing cause. This match was played at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali in Chandigarh. Dhoni's 139 and Virat Kohli 's 68 powered India to 303 in their 50 overs. But Australia's Adam Voges 76 , George Bailey 43 and last flourish from all rounder James Faulkner 68 stole the match from India's hands. Australia won by 4 wickets with 3 balls remaining.
