Waghmode’s brilliant century helps Badroda beat ONGC to lift 22nd JP Atray Memorial Cricket trophy

Irfan Pathan JP AtrayMohali: A brilliant century by Aditya Waghmode (102) and his 175-run second wicket partnership with Dhiren Mistry (82) helped Baroda beat ONGC by nine wickets in the final of the 22nd All India JP Atray Memorial Cricket Tournament played at IS Bindra PCA Stadium in Mohali on Sunday.

Electing to bat first, ONGC were bundled out for 198 in 45.3 overs, despite getting a fantastic start from their openers Ishan Kishan (66) and Sandep Sharma (39). The duo added 82 runs for the first wicket. Thereafter, the ONGC batsmen failed to click as Zeeshan Ali (21), Sumit Narwal (18), Parveen Gupta (15) and Prasanth Bhandari (12) could not convert their starts.

For Baroda, Abhijit Karambelkar was the most successful bowler (3 for 32), while Vikay Halai took 2 for 57, Soeab Tai claimed 2 for 25 and Vishnu Solanki took 2 wickets for 16 runs.

In reply, Baroda lost just one wicket in opener Kedar Devdhar (12) who was back into the pavilion with scoreboard reading 23. Thereafter, Waghmode and Mistry played with ease with Waghmode scoring 102 off 111 balls, including 12 boundaries. Mistry scored 87 off 107 balls, including five boundaries. For ONGC, Munaf Patel claimed the only wicket.

Waghmode was adjudged the Man-of-the-Match for his outstanding performance. Ishan Kisan of ONGC was named the best batsman of the tournament, while Vinay Choudhary of PCA Colts was adjudged the best bowler. Vishnu Solanki of Baroda was named the best fielder, while Irfan Pathan of Baroda was named the best all-rounder.
