Rain play spoilsport in 22nd All India JP Atray Memorial Cricket Tournament quarterfinals

cricket wickets 300Mohali/Chandigarh: In the first quarter final played at IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali Reliance winning the toss against PCC chose to field. The match which started at 10.30 am due to wet outfield was once again halted at 12.30 pm with the skies opening up. In the meanwhile Punjab had mustered 136 for 2 in 28 overs.

Wicket-keeper Mohit Handa who opened the innings remained unbeaten on 72 off 102 balls inclusive of 3 boundaries and one six. The other contributions came from Jeevanjot Singh 33 and Mandeep Singh 24 not out. For Reliance – I Nathu Singh 1 for 32 and Sorabh Kumar 1 for 26 shared the spoils. Match was finally abandoned after the final inspection due to wet outfield. Reliance-I advanced to semi-finals on the better NRR in the league stage.

In the second match played between Air India and CAG, Air India were 68 for 3 in 19.1 overs before heavy rain forced the match to be abandoned. Deepak Joon 23 was the highest run getter for Air India while Ishwar Pandey, Ritu Raj and Ankit Sharma scalped one wicket each for CAG. CAG moved into the semi-finals on the basis of better run rate in the league matches.

The third match at GMSSS Sector 26 between IOC and ONGC was also interrupted by rain. IOC won the toss and decided to field first in a truncated match of 38 overs. They opened with Ishan Kishan and Sandeep Sharma who put on 41 runs for the first wicket before Sandeep Sharma was caught by Sidesh Lad of Rohan Raje for 12.

Ishan Kishan and Prasanth Bhandari then added 54 runs for the 2nd wicket before Ishan Kishan was caught by Sidesh Lad off Fizar Dafedar for 53 off 64 balls with 7 boundaries. ONGC were 114 for 3 in 20 overs when it started pouring again. The match was then reduced to 20 overs and IOC was given a revised target of 155 in 20 overs.

IOC opened with Ravikant Shukla and Sidesh Lad who put on 41 runs in 4.4 overs before Sidesh Lad was caught by Prashanth off Sumit Narwal for 21 off 14 balls with 2 boundaries and one six. Ravikant Shukla kept one end up while wicket fell at regular intervals at the other end. Ravikant Shukla was the 5th man out caught by M.Patel off Navdeep Saini for 35, IOC were finally bowled out for 124 in 18.1 overs to lose the match by 30 runs. Munaf Patel 2 for 26, Navdeep Saini 2 for 26 Sumit Narwal 3 for 17 and Parveen Gupta 2 for 24 shared the spoils for ONGC.
With this win ONGC moved into the semi finals.
