Mickey Arthur becomes fourth cricket coach of Pakistan in two years

cricket bat ballThe Pakistan Cricket Board announced former South African cricketer Mickey Arthur as their new head coach on Friday. Mickey Arthur, who had recently served as the coach of PSL side Karachi Kings and as South Africa’s coach before that, has assumes the seat vacated by Waqar Younis after the WorldT20.

The revolving doors for Pakistan’s managerial hot seat continued with a fourth new coach taking charge in just over two years. The Pakistan Cricket Board formed a two-member committee comprising of Wasim Akram and Ramiz Raja to zero in on the new coach. The duo came up with an impressive short-list comprising of Peter Moores, Stuart Law, Dean Jones, Andy Moles and Mickey Arthur.

Earlier, Peter Moores and Stuart Law had turned down the PCB’s offer owing to personal reasons, and the ball, finally, fell in Arthur’s court.

Waqar Younis and Shahid Afridi had stepped down as manager and captain respectively earlier to create a mini-crisis situation in the Pakistan cricket team. The resignations came after a disastrous campaign for the national side in both the Asia Cup and the World T20.

Coaching Pakistan is one of the most challenging jobs in international cricket with player egos, security, low pay, all being a concern in some form or the other.
