Mohali: A fantastic fifty from Robin Uthappa (53 off 28 balls) and a ball 34 from skipper Gautam Gambhir helped Kolkata Knight Riders beat Kings XI Punjab by six wickets in the Indian premier league match at PCA Stadium, Mohali on Tuesday.
Batting first, Kings XI could set a modest target of 138 runs with a loss of eight wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Shaun Marsh was the only KXIP player to make a half century as he scored an unbeaten 56 off 41 balls. Murali Vijay scored 26 off 22 balls, while the other batsmen failed to do much with the bat as apart from Marsh and Vijay only KJ Abbott could cross the double figure mark.
Morne Morkel and Sunil Narine walked away with two wickets each for Kolkata Knight Riders.
Chasing the target, Robin Uthappa and Gautam Gambhir gave their team a rollicking start as the duo scored 83 runs in 8.3 overs, before Uthappa was trapped by P Sahu for 53. Sahu soon dismissed Gambhir in the 11th over and Manish Pandey too followed suit by scoring 12 off 11 balls in the 14th over s he was bowled by Axar Patel. Shakib al Hasan too could not do much with the bat as he was caught by Sandeep Sharma off Patel in the 16th over.
Thereafter, S Yadav and Yusuf Pathan steered the team home with six wickets and 17 balls remaining.
