ICC World T20: Rohit’s unbeaten 98 helps India beat West Indies by 45 runs in warm up match

Rohit Sharma 0Kolkata: An unbeaten brisk 98 off 57 balls by Rohit Sharma and a quickfire 31 off 20 balls by Yuvraj Singh followed by from tight bowling from Pawan Negi and Ravindra Jadeja helped India beat West Indies by 45 runs in the ICC T20 World Cup warm match at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday.



Batting first, India started with Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma and added 32 runs before Dhawan was bowled by SJ Benn for 21 runs in the fifth over. Ajinkya Rahane did not last long as he was stumped by Ramdin off Benn for seven runs.

Yuvraj joined Sharma and then began the onslaught of West Indian bowlers as both Sharma and Yuvraj opened up and sent the West Indian bowlers for leather hunt. The duo added 89 runs in 60 balls for the third wicket before Yuvraj was caught by Taylor off Darren Sammy for 31 runs. Thereafter, it was Rohit Sharma all the way as he took India’s total to 185 runs in the allotted 20 overs for the loss of six wickets.

For West Indies Taylor and Benn took two wickets each.

Though West Indies started the chase on a brisk note with Chris Gayle adding 36 runs in 21 balls, but once the West Indian skipper departed (20 runs off 11 balls), they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. They could reach just 140 runs as they lost all the wickets in 19.2 overs.

Mohammad Shami, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja and Pawan Negi took two wickets each.
