Mumbai: With both the teams needing a win to qualify for the next round in the tournament, Suarashtra prevailed over Punjab by 19 runs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on Sunday.
In the Group B clash, Saurashtra proved to be better on the day. Though Cheteshwar Pujara was dismissed early, the middle order, including Chirag Jan (39 not out) and Sheldon Jackson (38) contributed with the bat to post a stiff target of 167/5 before Punjab.
Chasing the total, Punjab were on the back foot after losing opener Jiwanjot Singh and Yuvraj Singh inside the first three overs. However, Himanshu Chawla tried to rescue his team with a quickfire half-century off just 20 balls. But regular fall of wickets did not help their cause as Jaydev Unadkat struck twice in the penultimate over to finish his spell at 3/19. Punjab lost by 19 runs.
