Happy that our side got rid of the jinx: Gilchrist

Adam-Gilchrist--Hon-Dr-Craig-Emerson-at-the-launch-of-Australia-UnlimitedPune: A fine bowling display followed by some superb batting by Manan Vohra helped Kings XI Punjab, who had never won an opening game in IPL in all the preveious seasons, beat Pune Warriors comprehensivley by eight wickets in their inaugural match of IPL Season 6. Ecstatic about the win, Punjab skipper Adam Gilchrist said that he was happy that his team got rid of the hoodoo.

"Kings XI Punjab have never won their opening match in the IPL earlier. That is the hoodoo we have got rid of. Every team hopes to start a tournament with a win and so we are going towards the right direction," Gilchrist said after the match,” said the skipper, adding that the intensity stayed up till the last ball.

In all praise for young young Gurkeerat Singh Gurkeerat Singh for his brilliant catch to dismiss dangerous Pune Warriors batsman Ross Taylor and Manan Vohra who scored an unbeaten 43 to take KXIP to victory, Gilchrist said every team hoped to start in that fashion. “Gurkeerat took a great catch. Manan played with same intention and scored quickly.  We know how important run rates are towards the end of the tournament. The boys adjusted to the conditions very well. Kings XI had never won their opening match, that is one hurdle we have got rid of now," said Gilchrist.

Man of the Match Manan Vohra said that he was very nervous before the start of the game. "I was very nervous before the start, and was having butterflies in the stomach. The wicket went better during the course of the innings and just carried on," said Vohra.

Meanwhile disappointed Angelo Mathews, said, "It can't really get any worse. Batting let us down again. We need to sort out our intent and attitude towards the first six overs. That sets up the entire line-up. It can only get better from here. The Pitch was up and down, and slow as well," said Mathews during the post-match presentation ceremony.
