Veteran spinner Sunil Joshi retires from cricket

Veteran spinner Sunil Joshi retires from all forms of cricketBangalore: One of the all time best bowler for Karnataka Sunil Joshi announced his retirement from international and first-class cricket. He has been a very consistent performer for his Ranji team with both bat and ball and has been served his state very well from the past two decades.

Joshi played 160 first class matches and picked 615 wickets for Karnataka at an impressive average of 25. He has 31 five wicket hauls to his name and has taken ten wickets in a match five times.

He was a very handy lower order batsman and that reflects in his record as he scored more than 5,000 runs at an average of 26, which is quite good for a batsman who plays down the order. On top of that he has four centuries and 26 half-centuries with 118 being his highest score.

Joshi played 15 Tests and 69 ODIs for India between the years 1996 to 2001. In the 15 Test he took 41 wickets. In the one-dayers Joshi picked 69 wickets. His bowling performance of 10-6-6-5 against South Africa was the highlight of his international career.

Joshi won three Ranji Trophy title in 1995-96, 1997-98 and 1998-99 for Karnataka and was considered as one of the most dedicated bower that the state ever produced.
