Punjab defeat Assam in Syed Mushtaq Ali TrophyMumbai: Punjab defeated Assam by nine wickets in the 2nd Preliminary Quarter Final of the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Punjab won the toss and elected to ball first. There bowers bowled at some good areas not giving the Assam batsmen to open their shoulders. Dheeraj Jadhav and Sibsankar Roy put up a partnership of 59 runs for the second wicket.  Roy got out on the score of 60 in the tenth over. After the fall of his wicket the team from Assam kept loosing wickets at regular intervals and could only manage 113 runs in the 20 overs.


Punjab than came on to bat and lost an early wicket. From there Sarul Kanwar and Gurkeerat Singh took hold of the proceedings and guided the team home. Both the batsmen played attacking cricket and got to the target in the 11th over.

Punjab: 118/1 in 11 overs (Gurkeerat 62*, Sarul 47*, Ahmed 1-26)


In another Preliminary Quarter Final match Baroda defeated Karnataka in the one-over eliminator. Both the teams were tied on a score of 167 runs at the end of their innings.

Baroda scored 22 runs in 6 balls and Karnataka could only manage seven runs.
