New Delhi: Delhi youngster Manan Rai stunned former Commonwealth Gold medalist Sidhant Mohapatra in the Under-13 open category of ongoing Asian School Chess Championship here at Indira Gandhi Stadium on Sunday. Playing with white pieces in Sicilian defence game, Manan maneuvered his bishop and king in the end game to good effect to garner full point against his fancied rival in 47 moves.
In other sections, as expected the seeded players sailed smoothly to the fourth round by registering comfortable victories in the third round. Top seed in Under-15 open section Girish Koushik got better Anish Gandhi while Dipatayan Ghosh and Aravindh Chithambaram defeated Raghav Srivathsav and Visheshwar respectively in Under-13 Open section.
