London: Five-time world champion Viswanathan Anand got the better of Veselin Topalov to score his first win in London Chess Classic on Day 5 here on Tuesday.
Earlier, the first match of the day between Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and Anish Giri ended in a 31-move draw while Levon Aronian and Magnus Carlsen too settled to share the points.
Michael Adams and Hikaru Nakamura too played a draw, which both ended in draws after the balance was never really disturbed, while Caruana again missed a big opportunity to get on the scoreboard, as he threw away a huge advantage against Grischuk.
Earlier, Anand had suffered a defeat at the hands of Hikaru Nakamura of United States in the fourth round of the tournament.
