Gurgaon: International Master Himanshu Sharma of Haryana on 7½ points is maintaining his lead of 1 point by drawing his game against top seed International Master Das Arghyadip from West Bangal in the 1st Gurgaon All India Open Fide Rating Chess Championship 2012, being held at Rishi Public School Sector 31 Gurgaon.
He is being followed by the pack of 4 players Das Arghyadip, Puneet Jaiswal of Delhi, Prince Bajaj of Delhi and Kantilal Dave of Rajasthan with 6½ points each. Manish Uniyal of Delhi, Himal Gosain of Chandigarh, Yogesh Gautam of Haryana and manan Rai of Delhi are closely following with 6 points each.
According to Naresh Sharma, IM Himanshu Sharma of Haryana and IM Argyadip Das are in the race for the top slot.
Earlier in the day the tournament was inaugurated by Rakesh Daultabad- noted social activist who also donated Rs. 51,000/- to the organisers. Shammi Ahlawat, Naresh Sharma-Gen. Secretary, Satish Singla, Anil Kumar Parnami,Rajpal Chauhan were also present on this occasion. Later in the day R.K.Kataria, I.A.S, former Deputy Commissioner of Gurgaon also visited the venue and encouraged the player.
A total of 103 players are participating in this championship. It is being organised by Gurgaon District Chess Association.
