Tirupathi: Continuing his impressive run in the championship, Chennai based G Akash taken the sole lead with six and half points after outwitting Saptarshi Roy Chowdhury of Railways in the seventh encounter of the ongoing National Challengers Chess Championship here at Ramatulasi Kalyana Mandapam on Tuesday.
Playing with black pieces in Sicilian defence game, Akash maneuvered his pieces to good effect in the middle game to outclass his International Master rival in 53 moves.
Meanwhile overnight joint leader Debashis Das is occupying the lone second spot with six points after settling for half point against Diptayan Ghosh of West Bengal in a well fought seventh round game that lasted 106 moves in Slave defence.
A pack of ten players, including International Masters Dinesh Sharma of LIC, B T Murali Krishnan of Railways and Swayams Mishra of Orissa sharing the joint third spot with five and half points.
