Liverpool: Indian boxing sensation Vijender Singh hit the weight at Friday’s weigh-in ahead of Saturday’s night’s showdown with Alexander Horvath. Undefeated Vijender, gunning for his fourth professional victory, looked in sensational shape weighing in at 11st 13lbs. Horvath came in at 11st 11lbs and looked in tremendous condition ahead of his UK debut.
Vijender Singh, who has won all his three fights by knockout inside three rounds, is looking forward to his first appearance of the year at the Liverpool Echo Arena and is promising to put on another explosive performance for his fans.
“When I turned professional in England I hoped that I would one day fight in Liverpool. Now that time has come and I can’t wait to get in the ring and show the people of Liverpool what I’m all about. I’ve trained hard for this fight and I’m going to put on an exciting show for everyone at the Echo Arena,” said Vijender Singh.
He added: “I ended last year in great style and now I’m looking to begin it in the same fashion by knocking out Horvath. This is an important year for me to continue developing and getting in ring experience but I’m also going to entertain fight fans.”
Hungarian warrior Horvath, who has the edge in experience over Singh with 31 rounds under his belt, holds a record of 5-1-1 (1) and plans on spoiling the party when he makes his first appearance in England. The tough super-middleweight has no fear fighting abroad having fought in Slovakia and France and promises to give Singh the toughest night of his career.
“This is it, fight time tomorrow night, all the training is done, my weight’s perfect and I’m ready for Vijender. I know there is a lot of hype around him and he’s a bit of a celebrity back in India but none of that will help him once he steps in the ring with me. I’m going to give India’s golden boy a beating he won’t forget,” said Horvath.
Vijender's fight will be telecasted Live on Star Sports 2 and HD 2 on 12 March 2016 at 11:30 pm IST.
