Professional boxing is like new era of my life: Vijender Singh

Vijender Singh Fight BannerManchester: Indian superstar boxer who is all set to make his professional debut against Sonny Whiting on 10th October at Manchester Arena feels that Professional boxing is like new era of his life.

After training for more than a month under globally acclaimed Trainer Lee Beard in Manchester, Vijender feels that his life has now totally changed with no fellow Indian boxers in the dressing room, no Indian food and no friends.

With just three days left, the 29-year-old Bhiwani (Haryana) boxer Vijender who is training hard both physically and mentally for 8-10 hours in a day is confident of a winning start in professional circuit. He is happy with the welcome he is getting from Indian community in Manchester and boxer feels that Indian community will come in large numbers to Manchester Arena to cheer for him on 10th October.

How excited are you to make your professional debut?

It’s all together a different beginning of my life. I am really excited for a debut day and I am in a shape as I stayed for more than one month in this gym with Trainers like Lee beard and Haroon Headley.

What have been the hardest things in your training?

In professional training is really hard but I love to do hardwork in my life. There is nothing easy because everything has changed now as I was the amateur boxer but now I am turning pro so everything will be changed slowly but I am hard working so I can do it and there is no easy thing I say in pro boxing.

Are you learning new things every day?

Yes I am learning new techniques every day from the boxers like Jason, Andren and Jack whom I follow. I see them how they use different techniques so I just watch and learn from them.

What do you think about Manchester?

I love Manchester, it is peaceful, very calm and there is no traffic at all, it very easy thing to go anywhere because I know Manchester it almost a month I am staying here so yeah I love Manchester.

Do you know anybody from the Indian Community in Manchester?

I went to an Indian restaurant with Francis Warren and my manager Neerav, so I just eat Indian food like on Saturday and Sunday.

So do you get recognized by lots of Indian people here?

Yes I am getting warm welcome at different places by Indian community here in Manchester and they ask me about date of my debut fight. They all are very much excited to see me in the professional ring and they told me that they will come to see my fight. I am sure Indian community will turn up in large numbers at Manchester Arena to cheer me on 10 October.

And your Opponent Sonny whiting, have you looked at him?

No not yet and I will see him finally in the ring.

What you think will be the biggest difference on the debut night when you will be in the dressing room?

My trainers are new and its almost a month I am with them and I am the only one Indian boxer training here. In Amateur boxing there were like 2-3 boxers with me in the changing room all the time but right now I am all alone with my trainers so there is a difference.  I just want to box hard that day.

What you think about smaller gloves?

Yes I started using in sparring so many times and finish almost 10-15 sparring last month so there’s not a big difference as I am used to it.

What type of Performance Box Nation can expect from you?

So far so good and its going to be amazing so just wait and watch. My aim is to make a winning start.
