New Delhi: Gauri Asija ousted Akanshi Balyan (21-19, 15-21, 24-22) in the second round of 1st GD Chawla Memorial Badminton Championship at Punjabi Bagh Club here on Monday.
In the first set, Akanshi gave a tough fight to Gauri, though it was a close match but few smashing error at the key areas by Akanshi helped Gauri take the lead (21-19). However, Akanshi came back strong in the second set and won tne equalizer 21-15. Akanshi played some good strokes which helped the second seeded player to win at ease (15-21). However, third and the deciding set was a thriller as riding on the crowd support Gauri Asija outplayed Akanshi Balyan (24 -22). In other matches Yash nain beat Sahaj Minhas (21-11, 21-15) to secure his place in the boys singles U-19.
