New Delhi: Rio Olympics silver medallist and India’s star shuttler PV Sindhu preserved her best for the last as after a gruelling three-setter in the semi-final, the Hyderabadi youngster beat China’s Sun Yu 21-11, 17-21, 21-11 in 69 minutes to win the China Open, her maiden Super Series title. The world No 11 will now move back into the top 10, while Saina Nehwal, who crashed out in the first round, will slide to 11th from 6th.
Hailing Sindhu’s remarkable win, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated her on Twitter, saying, “Congratulations to @Pvsindhu1 for her first super series title. Well played! #ChinaOpen.”
Meanwhile, VVS Laxman too congratulated Sindhu and tweeted, “Congratulations @Pvsindhu1 on winning the #ChinaOpen series ????????You keep making us proud???? Keep it up????”
