Jakarta: India’s badminton ace Saina Nehwal got the better of her Chinese opponent Yihan Wang to reach the women's singles semi-finals of the World Badminton Championship being held in Jakarta, Indonesia on Friday. The world number two beat sixth seed Wang 21-15, 19-21, 21-19 in the quarter-finals.
Nehwal, will now play against Indonesia's Lindaweni Fanetri for securing a final berth.
Meanwhile, 11th seed P.V Sindhu failed to make it to the medal round as she lost 17-21, 21-19, 16-21 to her Japanese opponent Sung Ji Hyun in the quarterfinals.
Indian doubles duo of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa also made an exit from the tournament after losing 23-25, 14-21 against the Japanese pair of Naoko Fukuman and Kurumi Yonao in their women's doubles event.
