New Delhi: India’s Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa got the better of Netherlands pair of Eefge Muskens and Selena Piek (21-19, 21-16) to win the women’s doubles title at the 2015 Canada Open. The third-seeded Indian pair won the contest in 35 minutes in Calgary.
Jwala and Ashwini had to sweat it out in the first game as their opponents matched them shot by shot till the end. However, the Indian shuttlers kept their nerves and grabbed the lone game point opportunity to win the game 21-19.
The second game, though initially, looked to go in favour of the Indians as they took a 5-0 lead, extending it to 10-6 to 15-6 at one point of a time, Muskens and Piek made a remarkable comeback to win nine consecutive points to make it 15-15. However, Jwala-Ahwini once again kept their cool and won the game (21-16) and title.
