BAI announces Rs 15 lah cash award for PV SindhuNew Delhi: The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has announced a cash award of Rs.15 lakh for PV Sindhu, who made India proud by winning the bronze medal at the World Badminton Championships held at Guangzhou, China.
 

Sindhu achieved the rare feat of becoming the first Indian women to clinch a medal in the mega event in the single’s category.


Looking at the bigger picture, BAI president Dr Akhilesh Das Gupta has ensured that from now on such rewards will be offered to every Indian shuttler who would be performing well in the international circuit. “The real motive behind this move is to give motivation to the fresh legs who wants to make the badminton as their career,” he said.


The BAI president said that Sindhu's win and the introduction of Indian Badminton League would write a new saga in the pages of Indian Badminton, which is seeing a steep rise since the past few years. “There would be many more medals to come in coming years from this bunch of aspiring shuttlers who are ready to take India to new heights,” he said.


Meanwhile, Sports Minister Jitendra Singh on Sunday congratulated Sindhu for winning India's first women's singles bronze medal at the World Championships in China.


"Congratulations on your outstanding performance... You have made the country proud. The ministry stands committed to supporting your endeavour to bring laurels to India in future,” Singh said in a statement.
