New Delhi: In the final leg of the much anticipated ‘Shuttle Express’, which was inaugurated by Olympic medalist Saina Nehwal in the Capital, there were 16 students battling it out for a winning spot at Genesis Global School, Noida. The final day of the Delhi leg included cut-throat matches between 8 participants from U16 Boys and Girls respectively across schools from Delhi/NCR.
The action packed race for the top spots started with the quarterfinals which were followed by semifinals and finals on Sunday. The winner from the Delhi leg will battle it out with the winners from other franchise cities in the National Finals to be held next month.
“Shuttle Express” Delhi leg is being played in partnership with “IBL School Partners” – Genesis Global School, Expressway (Noida). The ‘Shuttle Express’ will offer an incentive of Rs 10 lakh in prize money to the National winners in both the boys and girls singles events. Besides, the finalists in both the singles categories will also be given an opportunity to train at the world-class Pullela Gopichand Academy.
In an announcement on the same day, Genesis Global School said that they will give a scholarship of Rs. 1 lakh to the winner and Rs.75000 for the runners up, should they wish to join the institution.
The path-breaking Indian Badminton League will be held in six cities from August 14-31. The richest badminton league in the world will feature almost all the top-50 players in the world and will be played under the Sudirman Cup format and televised LIVE to more than 100 countries.
