New York: Andy Murray of Britain made it to the finals of the US Open here yesterday after he routed Thomas Berdych of Czech Republic 5-7 6-2 6-1 7-6.
Murray who won the 2012 London Olympics and reached the finals of Wimbledon will be eyeing his first grand slam title. Prior to this, Murray has entered the finals of grand slams four times but then lost on all the occasions.
Murray however does not know who his opponent would be as the other semi-final between David Ferrer and Novak Djokovic was suspended due to bad weather. Ferrer was leading 5-2 when the match was called off.
Berdych started the match on a dominating note and won took the first set 7-5 in 77 minutes. Murray made a comeback and clinched the subsequent two sets.
He then opened up a 3-0 lead in the fourth set but then lost the momentum and the Czech made a comeback. He took Murray to the hilt before losing 7-9 in the tie-breaker.
