New York: Top stars lived up to their billing as the defending champion Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams stormed into the second round of the US Open here at the Flushing Meadows on Tuesday.
World number two Djokovic of Serbia decimated a lower ranked Italian Paolo Lorenzi 6-1, 6-0, 6-1 in a sided affair.
Djokovic who dropped the first game came back strong to fire in seven aces and 32 winners in the match.
Meanwhile in the other match, Williams, who has won the U.S Open thrice saw off her compatriot Coco Vandeweghe 6-1, 6-1.
Serena Williams who won the Wimbledon and Olympics this year would take on Spain's Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez next.
While Djokovic and Williams cruised past easily Caroline Wozniacki was the first high profile casualty of the tournament.
Wozniacki lost to Irina-Camlia Begu of Belgium 6-2,6-2.
Begu was aided in her efforts by the Wozniacki’s knee injury who came into the match with her knee strapped due to the injury which she picked up at New Haven last week.
Andy Roddick of America also sailed past his compatriot Rhyne William 6-3,6-4,6-4 to set up a second round clash with Australia Bernand Tomic of Australia.
Venus Williams, winner here in 2000 and 2001 sailed past wildcard Bethanie Mattek-Sands of America 6-3, 6-1.
