Paris: No.3 seed Agnieszka Radwanska moved into the third round with a comfortable 6-2 6-3 win over former world no. 1 Venus Williams here on Wednesday.
While Williams was the clear aggressor throughout the match she was completely outmatched in precision and consistency - she had more winners than Radwanska, 17 to 14, but had far more unforced errors, 33 to just six.
Earlier on No.1 seed Victoria Azarenka had no trouble at all, cruising past German qualifier Dinah Pfizenmaier, 61 61. Azarenka piled up 60 unforced errors in a messy first round win over Alberta Brianti, rallying from a set and 4-0 down to win, 67(6) 64 62; against Pfizenmaier she had just 11 unforced errors.
Other winners were No.6 seed Sam Stosur, No.13 seed Ana Ivanovic, No.15 seed Dominika Cibulkova, No.18 seed Flavia Pennetta, No.21 seed Sara Errani, No.26 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova, No.27 seed Nadia Petrova, No.29 seed Anabel Medina Garrigues and unseeded Sloane Stephens.
Stosur next plays Petrova - Petrova leads the head-to-head, 5-2, though Stosur has won two of their last three, and this is their first meeting on clay.
