London: Parupalli Kashyap has given India its first win at the London Olympics. Kashyap defeated Yuhan Tan of Belgium 21-14, 21-12.
Earlier in the day, the mixed doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and V Diju lost their opening match to Indonesia’s Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir 16-21 12-21.
Kashyap dominated the match right from the start, but Tan came close in the first game with score at 14-12 in favor of the Indian. Kashyap from there took matters in control and won the first game.
In the second game Kashyap took the early lead and finished the match in style.
India had a disappointing start in the Games as their men’s archery team bowed out of the tournament earlier in the day.
