{"id":41704,"date":"2026-08-24T22:59:00","date_gmt":"2026-08-25T04:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/indiansportsnews.com\/?p=41704"},"modified":"2026-08-25T08:00:54","modified_gmt":"2026-08-25T13:30:54","slug":"asitha-fernando-yashasvi-jaiswal-fined-25-per-cent-match-fee-after-colombo-confrontation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/indiansportsnews.com\/?p=41704","title":{"rendered":"Asitha Fernando, Yashasvi Jaiswal fined 25 per cent match fee after Colombo confrontation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Colombo:<\/strong> Sri Lanka fast bowler Asitha Fernando and India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal have each been fined 25 per cent of their match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the opening day of the second Test in Colombo on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both players were found guilty of breaching Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with inappropriate physical contact with a player, player support personnel, umpire, match referee or any other person during an international match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One demerit point has also been added to the disciplinary records of Fernando and Jaiswal. Neither player had committed an offence during the previous 24 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fernando-Jaiswal confrontation after dismissal<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The incident took place after Fernando dismissed Jaiswal in the 17th over of India\u2019s first innings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jaiswal walked towards the Sri Lankan bowler and the two exchanged words. Fernando then moved his head towards Jaiswal, who leant in response, resulting in their heads making contact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The confrontation led to disciplinary action against both players under the ICC Code of Conduct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Both players accept ICC sanctions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fernando and Jaiswal admitted the offences and accepted the sanctions proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. As a result, no formal hearings were required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The charges were levelled by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, third umpire Rod Tucker and fourth umpire Prageeth Rambukwella.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Level 1 breaches of the ICC Code of Conduct carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum fine of 50 per cent of a player\u2019s match fee.
