Rahi Sarnobat, who won gold and silver medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, recently booked a berth at the 2012 Olympics by winning bronze in the 25m pistol event at the ISSF World Cup at Fort Benning in the United States. The 20-year-old is one of the few Indian shooters who have made it big since the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

In an interview with Shraddha Bagdwal of Indian Sports News, Rahi talks about her Olympic plans, her preparation and more. Excerpts:

ISN: How does it feel to be just a few months away from the Olympics?

Rahi: I am feeling great and extremely happy after winning my first Olympic quota. This is like a dream come true and I am proud of myself. I was not sure I would qualify for these Olympics because I wasn’t that experienced. So obviously it’s awesome, and I am looking forward to it.

ISN: How good do you think you are at dealing with pressure?

Rahi: I have had good international exposure at events like the World Cup and the Commonwealth Games, and I have handled the pressure quite well. I am quite good at handling pressure, so that’s not a problem.

ISN: How much do you fancy your chances of winning a medal at the Olympics?

Rahi: I have set myself the personal aim of winning a medal for the country. I am not quite sure about my prospects, but I am working on my technique and trying to be consistent with my scores. I am working really hard for the London Olympics.

ISN: Do you look up to anyone?

Rahi: Any day it would be Gagan Narang. I admire him for his attitude towards the game and his consistency.

ISN: Where do you see Indian shooting compared with other countries?

Rahi: Well, it is developing. Lots of sponsors are coming forward to support the game, and we are also winning at all levels across the world.
