Mumbai, 26 October 2026: The Captain Diana Trophy Under-23 Women’s Selection Trial Tournament 2026-27 got under way at Wankhede Stadium on Monday, with former India captain Diana Edulji attending as chief guest.
The T20 tournament is being organised by Fort Youngsters under the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). Players will be watched by the MCA selectors, who will use it to pick the Mumbai squad for the forthcoming BCCI Under-23 Women’s T20 Tournament.
The event is named after Edulji, who captained India and is one of the pioneers of women’s cricket in the country. MCA president Ajinkya Naik, Apex Council members, representatives of member clubs, coaches, selectors and players attended the opening.
‘A crucial stage’
“The Under-23 age group is a crucial stage in a player’s development,” Edulji said. “Mumbai has always been a powerhouse of Indian cricket, and tournaments such as these provide young players with the exposure and competitive environment necessary to progress to the next level.”
She said she was confident the tournament would find players who could represent Mumbai “and eventually aspire to wear the India colours”.
Naik said the competition gave young cricketers a chance to show what they could do and earn a place in the Mumbai side. “We are proud to honour Diana Edulji, whose contribution to Indian cricket continues to inspire generations,” he said. “I look forward to seeing future Mumbai and India players emerge from this tournament.”
