MUMBAI: India will host the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy 2027, with Mumbai and Vadodara staging the six-team tournament from 14 to 28 February, the International Cricket Council announced on Wednesday.
The Cricket Club of India (CCI) in Mumbai and the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium will host matches in the tournament, which brings together six of the leading teams in women’s cricket: Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka.
The teams qualified on the basis of their position in the ICC Women’s T20I Team Rankings on the 6 July cut-off date. They will play a round-robin league, and the top two sides will meet in the final on 28 February.
Sri Lanka makes way for India
The tournament was originally scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka. It has been moved to India because Sri Lanka Cricket is yet to complete the reforms outlined at the ICC’s Annual Conference in July.
The ICC assessed three candidates – Bangladesh, India and South Africa – against its host evaluation criteria before recommending India as the replacement. The ICC Board ratified the decision on 2 September.
