Wawrinka sets up date with Coric in Chennai Open final

Stanislas Wawrinka 26Chennai: Top seed Stan Wawrinka will meet Borna Coric in the final of Aircel Chennai Open as he got the better of his good friend Benoit Paire 6-3, 6-4, taking his winning streak to 11 matches and 22 sets, in the semi-finals on Saturday.

Wawrinka struck six aces, saved his only break point faced and broke Paire twice to secure the win in 65 minutes.

Wawrinka has won both career meetings against Coric, including a 6-1, 6-4 victory in Chennai 12 months ago.



Meanwhile, Coric overcame Aljaz Bedene challenge to win 7-6(5), 6-7(5), 6-3 in three hours. The 19 year-old becomes the youngest ATP World Tour finalist since Kei Nishikori (2008 Delray Beach) and the first teen to play for a title since Marin Cilic (2008 New Haven).

Meanwhile, in the doubles semi-finals, the Indian wildcard pair of Somdev Devvarman-Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan put up a spirited performance against Frenchman Benoit Paire and American Austin Krajicek, but lost to the French-American pair 7-5, 7-6(4). Paire-Krajicek will now meet third seeds Oliver March-Fabrice Martin in the final.
