Pune: The duo of Sachin Purohit and Alok Gole won the Pune leg, the opening event of the Audi quattro Cup 2014 season and qualified for the National final. In the qualifying round held at the enchanting Oxford Golf and Country Club here on Saturday, Sachin and Alok combined to score 44 stableford points and pipped the duo of Abhijeet Ganu and Andrew Pinto to the second spot by a solitary point. Andraneel Mujgule and Raj Datta finished third with 43 points on a countback. A wild card entry was also picked during the prize presentation where the team of Jiyaji Bhosale and Aditya Pusalkar were the lucky winners and logged 40 points. However, they have to await the scores of 12 other teams to secure a National final berth.
Hosted by Audi Pune, the one-day event saw Pune’s leading corporate czars trying to earn the coveted place in the final. In the various skills competition held alongside the main event, Manisha Jaitha won the “Longest Drive” prize on Hole No. 2 and emerged as the proud winner of the Audi Experience where she gets to use a chauffeur-driven Audi A6 on the weekend. Divesh Wadhawan won the ‘Straightest Drive” award on Hole No. 16 while Mujgule l emerged as the winner in the “Closest to Pin” contest on Hole No.17.
The Audi quattro Cup tournament series, established in 1991, has become one of the most celebrated amateur golf tournaments in the world bringing together over 85000 golfers from 54 countries. The Indian circuit of Audi quattro Cup will visit 12 other cities making it a 13-leg series and would touch almost 1500 golfers in all.
Audi Ahmedabad and Audi Kolkata will host the next legs at the Kensville Golf and Country Club and Royal Calcutta Golf Club on January 25 respectively.
