IPL – Chennai vs Delhi: Heroes and the zeroes from Match No. 24

mikehusseyslams65incskwinChennai Super Kings registered their third win of this season after their spectacular performance against Delhi Daredevils at Feroze Shah Kotla on Thursday. CSK defeated DD by a margin of 86 runs and three Ms (MS Dhoni, Mike Hussey and Mohit Sharma) were the stars of this victory. MS Dhoni and Mike Hussey played a great knock as they scored 44 and 65 runs to guide their team to a total of 169 runs. Mohit Sharma and R Ashwin were the pick of the bowlers as they clinched three and two wickets respectively.

Here we bring before you the hits and flops from the match:

HITS

Mike Hussey
: Mike Hussey showed his class once again as he scored 65 runs off 50 balls and stayed till the end. His ability to shift his gear made his shots look so elegant that it was a treat to watch him batting. He scored six fours and two sixes in his brilliant knock.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni: Dhoni played a ruthless innings in which he smacked 44 runs off just 23 balls. He was looking to do some serious damage and he did that quite easily as he smacked five fours in his knock.

Mohit Sharma: Mohit Sharma picked up three very crucial wickets and put DD under some serious pressure. He ended up with the figures of 3/10 in his four overs. His tactics of bowling short of length deliveries deceived both the openers and earned him their wickets.

R Ashwin: Ashwin bowled brilliantly as he ended up with the figures of 2/18 in his quota of four overs. His ability to mix his pace well made him look a very tough bowler to handle on this surface.

Suresh Raina: Raina played some good shots and scored 30 runs off 32 balls. Had he stayed on the crease for some more time, he could have fancied his chances in the later part of the innings.

FLOPS

Umesh Yadav: His fluctuating bowling performance makes him look more like a rookie. He went for 33 runs and picked up just one wicket. He was supposed to spearhead DD’s bowling attack, but he turned out to be their most inconsistent bowler.

David Warner: His poor run continued with the bat as he scored just one run in this innings. He is not able to grind those initial overs which is creating a lot of pressure on him. He needs to be rested for few games and DD should exercise other options which are warming the bench for quite a long-time.

Mahela Jayawardene: Jayawardene scored six runs off 11 balls that he faced. He was playing very slowly and was looking in no mood to hit the ball outside the circle. Though he scored one boundary but this kind performance from someone like Mahela is hurting his team quite badly.

Morne Morkel: He is not able to do any good for his team as he was the most expensive bowler for the third consecutive match. His bowled like a novice  and ended up with a figure of 1/42 which surely is not a very good sign for DD.

Irfan Pathan: Pathan has got all the opportunities -- whether it is in batting or in bowling, but he has not been able to do justice to it. He is giving away very easy runs by bowling those loose deliveries. He is not even looking match fit and persisting with him for longer duration will do more damage to DD.
