New Delhi: Australia thrashed India 3-0 in the opening match of the four-nation hockey test event for the upcoming London Olympics. The world champions outplayed India in all the departments and stamped their authority.
Australia kept testing the Indian defense and breached it for the first time in the 23rd minute. India played attacking hockey but failed to score the equalizer and the half time eneded with Australia leading India by one goal.
After the change of sides Australia doubled their lead in the 42nd minute and ensured that there was no coming back for Michael Nobbs’ men. The third Australian goal came on a penalty stroke.
The only saving grace for India was the goalkeeper P R Sreejesh who pulled out some miraculous saves. It was his efforts that made India’s outing less embarrassing.
