Vijay Hazare Trophy: Ruthless Delhi rout clueless Assam

New Delhi: Splendid bowling performances by Varun Sood ( 36-4) helped Delhi knock off Assam in style here at the Feroze Shah Kotla style enter the quarterfinal round of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Delhi as a whole displayed a lethal bowling and bundled out Assam for a paltry 94 runs before chasing down the target in 20 overs with 8 wickets in hand with Shikhar Dhawan leading from the front with a 72 balls 42 including four well struck boundaries.

Delhi who won the toss asked the visitors to bat first and received an early jolt when Ashish Nehra left the field only after bowling three overs due to a pain in the right thigh. But his exit did not bother the hosts much as the fast bowling pair of Pradeep Sangwan and Rajat Bhatia scalped four early wickets.

The spinners joined in the attack and aided Sood and Pawan Negi helped finish off the job for Delhi. Negi took two wickets by giving away only 12 runs.

Assam never had the skill to tackle the slow wickets and none of the batsmen barring Dheeraj Jadhav (23) and Rajdeep Das (20) could breach the double figure mark.

Delhi who now would most probably be facing Railways would fancy their chances to win even more with the possibility of Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli joining the bandwagon.
