Goal of Team India at the Olympics: Rio jao. Selfies lo. Khaali haat wapas aao. What a waste of money and opportunity.

After socialite and writer Shobha De called India’s participation in the Rio Olympics a waste of money and resources in one of her tweets, she was criticized for her irresponsible and nasty comment by sportspersons, celebs and public alike. After getting befitting replies from some sportspersons, including Beijing Olympics gold medallist Abhinav Bindra and former hockey captain Viren Rasquinha, actors including Abhishek Bachchan, Arjun Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha too got on to twitter and gave her befitting reply to the lady.
Here are their tweets in reply to Shobha De’s tweet:
Yes, winning is the goal. But representing your country at the Olympics is a HUGE deal too regardless of the results. Proud of r athletes.

Everyone has an opinion about our athletes at Rio, wish everyone with an opinion had once tried to even represent their country.#IndiaAtRio

@Abhinav_Bindra And do so despite of and in spite of there being no infra & institutional support, and no sporting culture @DeShobhaa

Lots of lament about medal tally, but no lament about lack of fitness culture (which builds a sporting nation) @Abhinav_Bindra @DeShobhaa
