New Delhi: India’s Rifle troika of Olympic Bronze Medalist Gagan Narang, Chain Singh and Sanjeev Rajput, who survived their respective elimination rounds yesterday could not make it to the finals of the 50m Rifle 3 Positions event today, at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup (Rifle/Pistol) in Changwon, Korea.
The closest to the final berth was Chain Singh, who could not make it to the qualification round giving way to Russian Nazar Loginets by just a single point. Chain Singh managed to score 1173, while Olympic Bronze medalist Gagan Narang finished 33rd with a total of 1162 and Sanjeev Rajput finished 47th scoring 1155 in the qualification round.
This marks the end of team India’s campaign at the ISSF Rifle / Pistol World Cup where India returned with two Bronze medals from Apurvi Chandela and Jitu Rai. Apurvi's Bronze medal also earned India its second Olympic Quota place.
The focus now shifts to the ISSF Shotgun World Cup at Larnaca, Cyprus. The event, which is slated from 24th April – 4th May 2014, has 10 (6 for Men and 4 for women) Olympic Quota places up for grabs.
